Re-framing the characteristics of concepts and their relation to learning and cognition in artificial agents

چکیده
In this work, the problems of knowledge acquisition and information processing are explored in relation to the definitions of concepts and conceptual processing, and their implications for artificial agents. The discussion focuses on views of cognition as a dynamic property in which the world is actively represented in grounded mental states which only have meaning in the action context. Reasoning is understood as an emerging property consequence of actionsenvironment couplings achieved through experience, and concepts as situated and dynamic phenomena enabling behaviours. Re-framing the characteristics of concepts is considered crucial to overcoming settled beliefs and reinterpreting new understandings in

Cognitive Computation Re-framing the characteristics of concepts and their relation to learning and cognition
There is a direct relation between the understanding of learning and cognition and the views on how intelligent agents process information. Concepts and conceptual processing are central and articulating elements to such relation. However, the definition of concepts continuously evolved linked to ideas about cognition and reasoning. Thus, re-framing their characteristics becomes necessary to go...
متن کاملHierarchical Functional Concepts for Knowledge Transfer among Reinforcement Learning Agents
This article introduces the notions of functional space and concept as a way of knowledge representation and abstraction for Reinforcement Learning agents. These definitions are used as a tool of knowledge transfer among agents. The agents are assumed to be heterogeneous; they have different state spaces but share a same dynamic, reward and action space. In other words, the agents are assumed t...
متن کاملRe-Framing the Knowledge to Action Challenge Through NIHR Knowledge Mobilisation Research Fellows; Comment on “CIHR Health System Impact Fellows: Reflections on ‘Driving Change’ Within the Health System”
The ambition of the Canadian Institutes for Health Research Health System Impact (HSI) Fellowship initiative to modernise the health system is impressive. Embedded researchers who work between academia and nonacademic settings offer an opportunity to reframe the problem of evidence uptake as a product of a gap between those who produce knowledge and those who use it. As such, there has been an ...
متن کامل(Non)native Language Teachers’ Cognitions: Are They Dichotomous?
In view of native/nonnative language teacher dichotomy, different characteristics have been assigned to these 2 groups. The dichotomy has been the source of different actions and measures to clarify the positive and negative points of being (non)native teachers. In recent years, many researchers have revisited this dichotomy. The challenge to the dichotomy can be a source of motivation to explo...
متن کاملEmotioncy-Based Language Instruction: A Key to Enhancing EFL Learners' Vocabulary Retention
Given the vital role that vocabulary plays in learning a language along with the fact that sense-induced emotions are noteworthy due to their influence on cognition, this study examined the impact of emotioncy-based language instruction on the long-term memory (LTM) vocabulary retention of Iranian EFL learners. To this end, 32 participants were selected based on their level of trait/state anxie...
